BEfore the ride
RSVP on strava
This gives the ride leader an idea on numbers and who we should be waiting for. If you end up not being able to attend it is good courtesy to click off the event and/or message the ride leader.
check the ride info
The route and speed will be posted on the Strava event page. While we encourage everyone to challenge themselves there will be a expectation that attendees will be able to keep up with the designated ride pace. Our no-drop rides are a great opportunity for you to get some experience group riding in a supportive, no-pressure environment.
Introduce yourself
If you haven’t ridden with us before please don’t hesitate to say hello on the Strava event and on the day. If you have any questions reach out to one of the rider leaders who will gladly help out.
know road calls
Make sure you’re familiar with bunch ride etiquette and road calls before the ride. A great document to refer to is this the Cammeray Roadies ride guide here.
Be punctual
Respect your fellow riders and show up on time. While we will reasonably wait for riders who RSVP, it is courteous to arrive 5min prior to the rollout time so that we can start our ride on time.
Be prepared
Make sure your bike is in good condition before the ride, and bring necessary supplies such as water, snacks, and a spare tube. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable clothing.
weather call
If there is the chance of inclement weather then a weather call will be made by the ride leader on the group chat, usually on the morning of the ride. This call is final and you ride at your own risk if the ride is called off.
during the ride
Ride safely
Safety should always be your top priority. Wear a helmet, obey traffic laws, and ride predictably. Stay alert and communicate with other riders when necessary. Avoid sudden moves, such as braking or swerving, without warning. Do not overlap wheels.
Communicate
Communication is key to a safe and enjoyable ride. Let other riders know if you're passing, changing lanes, slowing down, or stopping. Use hand signals and verbal cues to communicate effectively.
Stay together
Lead riders should ride at a constant effort and peel off gently from stop lights to ensure everyone is clipped in and on before returning to ride pace. If a gap is forming then ‘ease up’ or ‘steady’ should be called. If someone is struggling, slow down and offer support.
follow the leader
The ride leaders are there to keep the group together and to help guide everyone around safely. They may ask you to adjust your speed or road position in order to make the ride safer and more enjoyable for everyone involved. Ride leaders will also ensure that the group is running on time so they may make the call to move on if there is an unreasonable wait.
