3 Gorges

If you were visiting Sydney and only had time for one long ride this would be the one I would suggest to you. If you were visiting Sydney and only had time for two long rides this would still be the ride I would suggest to you but I’d do it twice. Allow me to explain.

The route is a loop and somewhat unimaginatively named because of the 3 ‘gorges’ that it comprises of:

1. Galston Gorge – actually a gorge

2. Berowra Waters – the middle child

3. Bobbin Head – the ‘people’s choice’

Each gorge provides its own distinct flavor but the real beauty is that you get to have a completely different experience if you decide to reverse the loop.

Take Galston gorge for example: if you enter from the west then you start with a fast descent to the bottom and then get a fabulous climb out via the famous switchbacks. Take the route in reverse and suddenly those switchbacks become a technical descent.

If you’re up for some great mixed terrain riding, a ferry crossing and great parkup options then this ride is a no brainer to try.  The hardest decision is choosing which direction to go.

Keep an eye out on our Strava club page as this is a regular fixture we run in our rotating roster of weekend group rides.

Check out the route here [hot tip: save the route and use the ‘reverse direction’ feature to create the anticlockwise loop]
